Success for
Carlisle & District Speakers at North-western District Annual
Contests on Sunday 19th March, 2006 - Stuart Hotel, East Kilbride
Carlisle and District
Speakers Club members had outstanding success at the North-western
District Contests on Sunday 19th March, 2006.
Evaluation Contest: 1st -
Margaret Hunt from Carlisle. (6 competitors)
Topics Contest: 1st - Davidson
Bell from Dalston (6 competitors)
Both winners collected
a handsome trophy
Evaluation Contest:
Margaret gave an analytical and constructive evaluation of a humorous
speech by a club member. This included tips on how the speaker may
improve technique.
Topics Contest:
Davidson had to give a three minute focussed speech, without preparation,
on a subject given only at the point of speaking. The ultimate impromptu
speech.
UK National Finals:
Margaret and Davidson now compete at the National Association of
Speakers Clubs contest finals on 28th, 29th, 30th April.
It is an achievement for a club
to have one speaker contesting a National Final - two contestants
from one club is a rare achievement.
Venue - The National Finals:
Swallow Hilltop Hotel, Carlisle.
Carlisle & District Speakers Club meet
on the 1st & 3rd Monday of each month at Morton Community Centre
- September until May.
